How to compare AI visibility tools

Compare them on eight points: entry price and pricing unit, engine coverage, free trial, geography and language, MCP, API access, answer-level data and export, and how openly the method is documented. Then check each against the vendor's own pages.

Competitor details come from vendor public pages, checked 2026-10-04. Vendors change prices often, so confirm on their site.

What to check when you compare AI visibility tools

The short answer

Two tools that look alike on a pricing page can differ in prompts, engines, markets and how answers are collected. Ask the same eight questions of every tool on your shortlist and write the answers down.

  1. Entry price and pricing unit

What does the cheapest plan cost, and what does the price scale with: prompts, engines, markets or seats?

Two tools at the same sticker price can differ by 5x in prompts or engines, and add-ons change the real cost.

  2. Engine coverage

Which AI engines are included, which cost extra, and which are missing?

A tool that skips an engine your buyers use cannot tell you where you are absent.

  3. Free trial

Can you test it before paying, for how long, and with what limits?

A trial is the cheapest way to test the interface, but trial limits often differ from paid limits.

  4. Geography and language

Which countries and languages are covered, and are they limited by plan?

AI answers change by country and language, so a US-only tool says little about a German market.

  5. MCP

Is there an MCP server, what can an assistant read and write, and which plans include it?

MCP decides whether Claude or ChatGPT can work with your data, and whether it can also change it.

  6. API access

Is there a REST API, on which plans, and with what request limits?

If you pipe data into your own warehouse or dashboards, API gating can matter more than the plan price.

  7. Answer-level data and export

Can you read the full AI answers, export them, and for how long are they kept?

Counts tell you that something moved. The answers tell you why.

  8. Methodology transparency

Does the vendor publish how answers are collected, how many runs back a number, and where numbers are unreliable?

AI answers vary from one ask to the next, so a number without its sample size is hard to trust.

Information from Peec AI, Profound and Otterly.AI public pages, checked 2026-10-04. We have not given any tool a score. Which tool fits depends on the constraint that decides it for you.

Compare Firemark with each tool

Each page opens with a choose-if summary, then lists where the other tool is stronger, where Firemark is stronger and where Firemark is behind.

Best AI visibility tools: how to choose

The best AI visibility tool is the one that covers the engines and countries your buyers use, prices by something you can predict, and states how it scores answers. Pick on the constraint that decides it for you.

  • You sell outside the United States. Peec AI and Otterly.AI list more countries than Firemark, which is US English only. See the Peec AI and Otterly.AI comparisons.
  • You want a published price and no sales call. Firemark lists four monthly plans from $29 to $499. Profound lists a free Trial and a custom Enterprise plan for brands. See the Profound comparison.
  • You need the longest engine list or an API. Profound's Enterprise plan covers up to nine engines and its API is available on request. Firemark tracks five engines and has no customer API at launch.
  • You have to defend the numbers to a VP. Ask every vendor for its minimum sample rules and what counts as a mention. Ours are on the method page.

Semrush and Ahrefs: AI visibility inside an SEO suite

Semrush and Ahrefs both sell AI visibility tracking alongside their SEO tools, which suits a team that already pays for one of them. We have not compared them point by point. The details below come from each vendor's own page, read on October 5, 2026.

  • Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit tracks mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, and includes 25 custom prompts. It is priced per domain, shown at €94.94 a month on annual billing on its EU pricing page.

How we compared these tools

We read each vendor's own pricing page, docs and help pages on 2026-10-04. We state a competitor detail only when its own pages state it. When a vendor's pages disagree or leave a detail out, the page says to check the vendor instead of guessing.

Our own details come from our plans, our method and our MCP page. Firemark is US English only, has no free trial, tracks five engines and does not track Claude yet, and the vendor pages say where that puts us.

Questions about comparing AI visibility tools

How is AI visibility different from SEO rank tracking?

Rank trackers report a position for a keyword on a results page. AI answers have no fixed positions. Firemark records whether your brand is named, whether your site is linked, and how competitors fare across many prompts and engines, and repeats on a schedule.

How do I compare AI visibility tools?

Compare them on eight things: entry price and what the price scales with, engine coverage, free trial, geography and language, MCP, API access, answer-level data and export, and how openly the method is documented. Check each against the vendor's own pages, because plans and prices change often.

Will two AI visibility tools give me the same numbers?

No. Tools differ in the engines they track, how they collect answers, which country and language they ask from, how often they run and how many answers sit behind each figure. Compare a tool with itself over time, and compare tools on method rather than on one headline number.

How current is this comparison?

Competitor details come from each vendor's public pages and docs, checked on 2026-10-04, and each page lists its sources and dates. Vendors change prices and plans often, so confirm anything that decides your purchase on the vendor's own site.
