Google AI Overview tracker: see if Google names your brand
Firemark runs your buyer questions as Google searches and reads the AI Overview where Google shows one. It records whether the Overview names your brand, links your site and names your competitors. AI Overviews are included in every plan.
How Firemark tracks Google AI Overviews
We run each prompt as a Google search from the United States, in English, and read the AI Overview on the results page, including one that loads after the page.
Google decides whether a query gets an AI Overview, so the number of prompts that return one can be lower than your basket. The prompts you track are written as buyer questions, and the Overview text and its linked sources are stored for each one that returns an Overview.
This engine is the least reliable to collect. In our own early test runs it needed retries more often than the other four. Each prompt gets up to three attempts, a retry waits a minute per earlier attempt, and anything still open at 24 hours is marked as an error and left out. An error is never recorded as absence.
- Google results pageCollected from the search results page, from a US location, in English.
- Late-loading OverviewsThe collection asks for the Overview that loads after the page, so a late Overview is not missed.
- Coverage ruleAn engine answering fewer than 95% of your prompts in a run is shown as short and left out of that run's totals.
Firemark runs each prompt as a Google search from the US, reads the AI Overview on the results page when Google shows one, and counts how often it names and links your brand.
What you see for Google AI Overviews
For AI Overviews you see how often the Overview names you, how often it links your site, which competitors it names instead, and which stage of the buyer journey each result comes from.
- Named and linkedThe Overview's text naming your brand is one count and your site among its links is another.
- By funnel stageWhere in the buyer journey the Overview names you, from early research to final comparison.
- Competitors named in your placeWhich rivals the Overview names on prompts where you are absent.
- SourcesThe sites the Overview links, so you can see which pages Google leans on in your category.

What is different about Google AI Overviews
AI Overviews appear above the usual results for some Google searches and not others, which makes this engine behave differently from the chat-style engines.
- Google chooses when to show oneNot every query returns an Overview. That is Google's decision, and it can change over time.
- A search feature, not an assistantAn Overview sits on a search results page. It is not a chat, and it is separate from Gemini and from AI Mode.
- Collection needs more retriesIn our early test runs this engine failed on the first attempt more often than the others, so it may take longer to finish a run.
- In every planLite, Starter, Growth and Pro all include AI Overviews.
How do I check if my brand appears in AI Overviews?
Search your buyer questions on Google from a US location and read whether an AI Overview appears and whether it names your brand. Google does not show an Overview for every query, so the check has to cover many questions.
Firemark runs your prompts as Google searches on a schedule, reads the AI Overview where there is one, and records whether it names your brand, links your site and names competitors. A prompt that gets no Overview has nothing to read, so it is not counted as your brand being absent.
Because Google decides when to show an Overview, the useful reading is the share of the Overviews we could read that name you, and how that share moves over several runs.

Limits we state
Tracking Google AI Overviews covers United States English only, and it is a sample of answers, not a census of everything people ask.
- United States and English only. Other countries and languages are not tracked.
- The counts describe the prompts you track, asked once each per run. They do not describe every question anyone could ask.
- Whether a prompt gets an Overview is up to Google, so the number of Overviews we can read depends on your prompts.
- Collection for this engine can need retries, so a run may finish later than the others.
- Claude is not tracked yet. It is planned for Pro.

AI Overviews tracking FAQ
The basics
Which AI engines does Firemark track?
ChatGPT (web, logged out), Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Gemini, in US English. Lite covers ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode, Starter adds Gemini, and Growth and Pro cover all five. Claude is coming.
Does Google show an AI Overview for every prompt?
No. Google decides whether a query gets an AI Overview, so the number of Overviews we can read depends on the prompts you track.
How are AI Overviews collected?
Each prompt is run as a Google search from the United States in English, and the AI Overview on the results page is read, including one that loads after the page.
Why can AI Overviews take longer to finish than other engines?
In our early test runs, collection for this engine needed retries more often than the others. Each prompt gets up to three attempts. If an engine answers fewer than 95% of your prompts, it is shown as short and left out of that run's totals instead of counted as absence.
