Track your brand in Perplexity

Firemark asks Perplexity your buyer questions with web search on, and records whether each answer names your brand, links your site and names your competitors. Perplexity is included in Growth at $199 a month and in Pro at $499.

How Firemark tracks Perplexity

We send each prompt to Perplexity's API using the sonar model with web search on, from the United States, in English.

Perplexity is always collected live. Where other engines may use a standard queue for scheduled runs, every Perplexity answer is requested directly during the run. The answer text and the sources Perplexity cites are stored, then scored for your brand and each competitor.

Before a run starts, three prompts are tried on every engine. If Perplexity returns nothing, it is left out of that run and shown as short. Absence is only recorded when an answer came back and did not name you.

  • Model and searchThe sonar model with web search turned on, so answers reflect what Perplexity finds on the web at the time.
  • US location, EnglishEvery request is sent for the United States in English.
  • Sources keptThe cited sources are stored in order with the answer, and the full answer stays available for 13 months.
The short answer

Firemark collects Perplexity answers through Perplexity's API with the sonar model and web search turned on, from the US, and shows you which sites it cited when it named you and when it named a rival.

What is different about Perplexity

Perplexity is the only engine we read through its API, and it is the engine that makes Growth different from Starter.

  • API model, not the whole appWe record the sonar model's answer with web search on. The Perplexity app offers other models and modes, and what a person sees there can differ from the answer we record.
  • Web search on every answerBecause Perplexity searches the web while answering, the sources it cites can change between runs. The Sources screen is where that shows up first.
  • Always livePerplexity answers are requested directly during the run. They are not part of the queued collection used for some other engines.
  • Only on Growth and ProLite and Starter do not include Perplexity. Moving to Growth adds it, which changes the engine set, so the overall figures start a new comparison.

Limits we state

Tracking Perplexity covers United States English only, and it is a sample of answers, not a census of everything people ask.

  • United States and English only. Other countries and languages are not tracked.
  • The counts describe the prompts you track, asked once each per run. They do not describe every question anyone could ask.
  • Perplexity is read through its API with one model. The Perplexity app can behave differently.
  • Cited sources depend on what Perplexity finds at the moment of the run.
  • Claude is not tracked yet. It is planned for Pro.

Track the other engines beside Perplexity

Each engine has its own counts, so you can see where you are named on one and missing on another.

Perplexity tracking FAQ

The basics

Which AI engines does Firemark track?

ChatGPT (web, logged out), Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Gemini, in US English. Lite covers ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode, Starter adds Gemini, and Growth and Pro cover all five. Claude is coming.

Is Perplexity good for SEO?

Perplexity cites web pages in its answers, so being named or linked there is a visibility signal you can measure. It is a separate engine from Google search. Firemark counts how often Perplexity names your brand and links your site across your prompts, and which sites it cites.

How is Perplexity collected?

Each prompt goes to Perplexity's API with the sonar model and web search turned on, for the United States in English. Perplexity is always collected live during the run.

Will the answers match what I see in the Perplexity app?

Not always. We record the sonar model's answer with web search on. The Perplexity app offers other models and modes, and its answers can differ. Counts are reported as measured.

Can I see which sites Perplexity cites?

Yes. The Sources screen counts answers that cite a site at least once, split between answers where you are named and answers where a competitor is named and you are not. The top 100 sites show on screen and all of them are in the CSV export.
